  • Yes helmets, with a hi-vis rear light, are supplied in the hire cost and are cleaned and sprayed with disinfectant after each use. They are fully adjustable between a 56 to 62cm (+/- a smidgeon) head circumference. Measure around head from forehead to the back of the head at about the same level as the forehead, where the circumference is the maximum.

  • You don’t need special footwear in order to ride our E-Bikes but for your safety we do insist that you wear shoes that fully enclose the foot and do not have long lace loops that could become entangled in the bike’s drive train. Trainers or walking boots, with short laces are ideal.

WARNING: If you turn up wearing flip flops or open sandals we will insist that you change into suitable footwear, even if this means that you have to go away and rebook for later the same day or another day. If you don’t wish to comply with this simple safety measure you are free to cancel with no financial penalty.

  • Yes, UK law states that to ride an E-Bike on public roads the rider must be at least 14 years old. Let us know if you have younger children that you wish to join your party and we can supply normal pedal only cycles, trailer cycles or trailer carriages.

  • The beauty of E-Bikes is that you don’t have to be super physically fit to ride one, however you will of course to need to expend some energy when riding. We would suggest that if you cannot easily manage a couple of flights of stairs you should plan your ride to avoid steep slopes and limit the duration of your riding to that which you are comfortable with.

  • The frame size, for the majority of the bikes is 18 inches or 46 cm. Seat height and handlebar height are adjust able. This generally means that the bikes are comfortable for persons from 5’4” (123cm) to 6’1” (186cm). We also have some bikes with a lower frame and shorter pedal cranks for those that are not comfortable on our usual bikes. If you are on the shorter or taller side, we suggest that you book, come and try the bike and if you are not comfortable when riding it we will refund 100% of the hire fee. The delivery fee cannot be refunded.

  • The bikes are rated to take a person up to 150Kg or 23 ½ stones. However, the heavier the rider the lesser the performance of the bike will become and it will struggle to go across soft or steep ground. It’s a power to weight ratio thing! In reality experience shows that 120Kg or 18 ¾ stones is the practical weight limit, with the proviso that over 101.5Kg (16st) will notice reduced performance and range.

  • The batteries should last between 40 and 50 km which is approximately 24 to 30 miles. However, this is very dependent on how much assistance you ask of the bike and the terrain that you are riding over, whether it is steep or hard going. The bikes have 5 assistance levels with 1 giving the least assistance and 5 the most. Correspondingly level 1 uses the minimum amount of battery charge and level 5 the most. There is a readout on the head unit (LCD display and controller) displays the battery voltage. At full charge the display will show the battery volts as >50V. Riders are advised to keep an eye on this and if it drops below 45V think about returning to base and/or reducing the PAS level, and therefore the battery consumption. The battery will stop giving power when it reaches 39V. If you do run out of battery power, you can still ride the bikes as a conventional bicycle. If you are unable to do so because of tiredness for example, we can run another battery out to you, but may have to charge for this service, depending on circumstances.

  • No, as it against UK law (see The Highway Code app), unless sign posting designates it as a multi-user pathway. If you are using a cycling permitted path or track, please be very considerate of other users such as walkers or horse riders, by slowing down, passing and warning them by saying in a loud voice “Coming by” and/or sounding the horn/bell with which the bike is fitted.

If you feel that you must use the pavement because of traffic density, for example, you must get of the bicycle and walk-it on the pavement. Note that our bikes are fitted with a thumb throttle to assist walking, the speed of the bike is limited to 6km/h or 3.6m/h when using this feature. The thumb throttle is also very useful in assisting a rider in pushing a bike up very steep slopes and or steps/ stairs that would otherwise be very difficult to negotiate.

  • Our fat-tyres are resistant to puncture and we ask that you are sensible about where you ride, such as do not ride through a bramble patch, however a puncture is not impossible. The leader of each party will be issued a basic tool kit that includes every thing required to fix a puncture or make minor adjustments to a bike. If all else fails you can call us and we will come out to assist, although a small charge may be incurred to cover our costs, unless of course the fault is ours.

  • No, as long as you remember that squeezing either front or back break lever immediately disengages the motor. It can take a few minutes to get used to riding an e-bike but we will go over the controls and have you practising in a safe area before you head out on your ride.

  • The first tip is to remember that e-bikes work just like a normal bike but with power assistance to help you accelerate quicker than by pedal power alone, to assist you up steep hills and ride further for a given level of fitness. We recommend that when riding you use the highest PAS (peddle assist setting), level 5, for moving off from the side of the road, or turning out from junctions. It is also useful to use the thumb throttle when starting from a dead stop as this will get you moving more quickly than pedal power alone. As with a normal bike, it is best if you change down to the lowest gear as you approach the stop or the junction.

Once you are cruising, and have moved up the gears, turn down the PAS level as low as is comfortable for you and this will extend the battery life. Remember if you stop peddling 20 or seconds later the PAS will deactivate and you will have to start peddling again to reactivate PAS. PAS will also deactivate at 25kph (+/- 2kph). You can go faster but it will be on leg muscles alone.
